Subject: It just quit working
Tom,
Everything has been working fine for a while now.
This morning, I wired up the MPG switches, and modified the init code with the proper I/O port addresses.
Somewhere in this, the KFlop has quit working.
The servos don't lock in anymore.
When I wake it up, I can read the IO ports, and the ones I wired in for the MPG work as they should.
I can send a version command using the console, and KFLop responds.
The encoders all count if I move the axes manually.
However, if I execute the init file (even after I commented out all the MPG stuff) or even download the axis parameters (unchanged for months now) the console gets continual "neg limit stop axis:0" messages. They just keep coming.
If I send a reset command, they stop, but then if I send any other commands, KMotion says it can see the KFlop, but it's not responding.
The only way I can get the communications back in sync is to cycle the power.
The 2 green led's on KFLop flash and turn solid, as they always have.
Any ideas what to do?
Thanks,
Michael Rosenfield

Hi Mike,

I'm not sure but there is a Limit Switch Action called "Stop Motion" that isn't properly supported yet and can cause problems like you are seeing.

Did you somehow change things to use that mode?  If so change back to "Kill Motor Drive".

Hi Michael,
If you can, also measure current draw of the KFLOP/KANALOG board before and after the exec init file lockup. It could be a blown IO, or a OUTPUT being fed with a voltage and conflicting after using your init file. Hope that's not the case.

Just some clues to check.

I have been using that mode for months with no problems. I changed all axes to kill motor drive, and now I get one neg limit disabled axis error.also, I noticed that the analog status display shows all analog outputs at 1.7 v approx ( they are all within 20 mV of each other, but not identical), the voltage I measure at the outputs is 0v.
The current draw of the kflop/kanalog is about 1 amp; it varies 100 ma.
Don't seem to have any output control.

Hi Mike,

That would indicate your Neg Limit is indicating it is active.  Is it?  (Check Digital IO Screen)

Did you mean to say Analog Outputs?  Or Analog inputs?

Is the Kanalog LED on?

Sounds like you should go back to basics and test/troubleshoot the hardware.  Disconnect Everything.  Cycle Power.  Do not do any Initialization,  Check al the screens are indicating normal things (DAC Outputs are zero).  Use Console Screen to set a DAC to various voltages.  Verify with a voltmeter.

I have also compared the init file with a backup copy from last week; other than the MPG code (commented out currently) the files are the same.

Hi Mike,

Were you driving into the limit last week?

Ok, pass me the stupid hat!
I moved a wire that I thought was unused, but it was powering the limit inputs!
All fine now.
Thanks for the help, Tom!
I'll leave the limit controls set to  kill motor, but they have been on stop motion with no apparent issues.

Thank you that helps a lot. Especially the point about properly debouncing the switch changes.
